An intimate affair, the ceremony was attended only by family and close friends and some political bigwigs. The engagement rituals were conducted by Aisshwarya's father DK Shivakumar and mother Usha Krishna, and Amartya's grandfather SM Krishna and grandmother Prema Krishna.
