General Asim Munir , like many Pakistan Army chiefs before him, is the most powerful man in his country. But he is different from his predecessors in several ways: he is a religious zealot and a military outsider. Asim Munir is a Pakistani general and the current Chief of Army Staff since November 2022. He has served in various commands and intelligence agencies, and received the Sword of Honour and the Nishan-i-Imtiaz awards. Pakistan is preparing to send up to 20,000 soldiers to the Gaza Strip as part of an international stabilisation force, according to deal brokered by Field Marshal Asim Munir with the American CIA and Israel’s Mossad, top intelligence sources have said. Asim Munir - the man seen as having triggered the latest conflict between India and Pakistan- is under sharp focus following the Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
