In 1984, Rakesh Sharma became the first Indian born citizen to enter space through a joint Interkosmos mission between ISRO and Soviet space program, when he flew aboard the Soviet rocket Soyuz T-11 launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic on 3 April 1984. ISRO Chairman announces 90% completion of Gaganyaan mission , with crewed launch planned for 2027 after three uncrewed missions. Gaganyaan is India’s first crewed space mission , undertaken by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). The mission aims to send Indian astronauts to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) of 400 km for up to 3 days and return them safely. The Gaganyaan Mission is India’s ongoing project to send a 3-day manned mission to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) of 400 km with a crew of 3 members and bring them safely back to Earth. As part of this program, two unmanned missions and one manned mission are approved by the Government of India.
