The Rowlatt Act , an expansion of the Defence of India Act (1915), was enacted in response to the threat in Punjab and Bengal, based on the committee’s recommendations. The Rowlatt Act 1919 was a repressive British law in India granting the government sweeping powers to arrest and detain individuals without trial.
