Sukhna Lake is a serene reservoir located at the foothills of the Shivalik Hills in Chandigarh, Punjab, India. This 3 km² rain-fed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe stream flowing from the Shivalik Hills. Conceived by the Swiss-French architect, Le Corbusier, and the Chief Engineer P L Verma, Sukhna Lake forms an integral part of the city's urban design and is a protected national wetland. Sukhna lake is one of the most aesthetically pleasing creations of Le Corbusier and Chief Engineer P.L Verma, gifted to Chandigarh in the year 1958. A man-made lake standing in the foothills (Shivalik hills) of the Himalayas, it was created by damming the Sukhna choe which is a seasonal stream that flows down from the Shivalik hills. See the Sukhna Lake Regulator Dam There is a water regulator build on the Sukhna Lake to control the water level in the lake . This dam is built on the other end of the lake near the Garden of Silence. The gates of the dam remain closed and are opened in the rainy season if the water level in the lake rises above the danger mark.
