The Tropic of Cancer is an imaginary circle at approximately 23.5°N latitude. Also known as the Northern Tropic , it is the last latitude circle (going north from the equator) at which the Sun can be directly overhead (see diagram below). North of the tropic are the subtropics and the North Temperate Zone. The equivalent line of latitude south of the Equator is called the Tropic of Capricorn, and the region between the two, centered on the Equator, is the tropics. In the year 2000, more than half of the world's population lived north of the Tropic of Cancer . [4] On the Tropic of Cancer there are approximately 13 hours, 35 minutes of daylight during the summer solstice. During the winter solstice, there are 10 hours, 41 ... During the summer solstice (around June 21), the sun is located immediately overhead the Tropic of Cancer , making it the farthest point north on Earth where the sun is located directly above at noon. When the Tropic of Cancer was first named about 2,000 years ago, the sun was pointed in the direction of the constellation of Cancer during the June solstice. The name stuck, even though the location of the sun has shifted and now resides in the constellation of Taurus during that time of year. The Tropic of Cancer passes through a total of 17 countries.Read this article to know what is Tropic of Cancer and through which countries it passes.
