Bolpur is the sub divisional town of Birbhum District. History says that, Bolpur was a small village under Supur Pargana. But now Bolpur has become an international city of culture and learning. There are several places in Bolpur to see. Bolpur municipal area includes Shantiniketan. It is 150 km north of Kolkata and is best known for Viswa Bharati, the university set up by the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.
