Here’s the difference between Automatic Transmission (AT), Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT). At one point in time, a few years ago, an automatic gearbox in a car was considered to be a luxury, restricted only for bigger and more premium cars in the Indian car market. However, […] What does CVT mean? Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is an automatic gearless transmission technology that can change seamlessly through a continuous range of effective gear ratios using two pulleys that are connected by a belt. This infinite number of possible gear ratios, making gear change operation smooth and stepless, unlike conventional automatic transmission systems that use sets of fixed gears. However, there exists a second and third category of automobile technologies, namely, continuously variable transmission or CVT full form (Continuously Variable Transmission) and direct shift gear or DSG full form (Direct-Shift Gearbox). Every AMT full form (Automated Manual Transmission) works on a set of decided mechanisms. The CVT’s full form is Continuously Variable Transmission, an automatic transmission technology that provides smoother performance than traditional gear systems.
