This is a list of all sovereign states and dependencies by total fertility rate (TFR): the expected number of children born per woman in her child-bearing years. "Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in India indicates average births per woman, reflecting population trends, demographic shifts, and policy implications for health and development. Total fertility rate is directly calculated as the sum of age-specific fertility rates (usually referring to women aged 15 to 49 years), or five times the sum if data are given in five-year age groups. India’s fertility rate has dropped to 1.9, below the replacement level, with financial strain and evolving societal choices playing key roles, says the UNFPA’s 2025 report.
