Neeraj joined the Indian Army in 2016 as a Naib Subedar (a junior commissioned officer) in the 4 Rajputana Rifles, following gold-medal performances at the Junior World Championships and South Asian Games. He has been serving in the Territorial Army. The Indian Army has conferred the honourary rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 2020 Tokyo Olympic Gold medallist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.
