Southeast Asia comprises 11 countries, with Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos predominantly on the continent, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and East Timor, exclusively on islands, while the territory of Malaysia is divided into commensurate continental and island parts. All eleven states of Southeast Asia are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Southeast Asia is a geographical subregion in Asia. The 11 countries in Southeast Asia are - Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor (Timor-Leste)... Asia consists of 48 countries, three of which are transcontinental. Given its large size, Asia has been subdivided based on many factors, including cultural, political, and physiographical. Physiographically, there are five major regions of Asia: Central Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Western Asia.
