The process by which the glucose (6C compound) is split into two molecules of pyruvic acid (3C compound) is called glycolysis or EMP pathway. It occurs in the cytoplasm. Reactions involved in glycolysis are as follows: (i) The glucose is phosphorylated with ATP to form glucose-6-phosphate. The reaction is catalysed by the enzyme hexokinase. Thus, glycolysis produces both ATP for cellular energy requirements and building blocks for synthesis of other cellular products. This process occurs in all organisms, and is responsible for converting glucose to pyruvate and generating ATP in the process. icandoitibelieve icandoitibelieve, Which combination of statement is correct? (i) In aerobic respiration , glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm of a cell. (ii) In aerobic respiration, glycolysis cannot occur without the presence of oxygen. (iii) In the process of glycolysis , glucose molecules are oxidised to produce the molecules of pyruvate. (iv) In aerobic respiration , glycolysis occurs in the mitochondria of a cell. (v) In aerobic respiration, oxidation of pyruvate molecules to produce CO2,H 2O and energy, occurs in ...
